Since its inception more than 30 years ago, General Security has always given back to the community and people it serves.

This mission has remained a consistent core value from the moment the company planted roots at its Plainview, N.Y. headquarters.

Assisting Long Island residents, first responders, and local organizations during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, therefore, was a natural response.

Learn about how General Security is paying it forward with food donations, grocery shopping assistance, first responder meal deliveries, and more during these unprecedented times.

Grocery Shopping

When New York State issued COVID-19 lockdowns and stay-at-home orders for Long Island and New York City this spring, General Security contacted a Nassau County legislator to find out how it could help local residents.

The local lawmaker told the company that immunocompromised senior citizens couldn’t leave their homes to purchase basic necessities, and provided a list of those requiring assistance.

General Security sent office employees and service staff to local supermarkets to purchase requested items and deliver them using company vans. Several boxes of food items were also donated to a senior center.

“They [the seniors] were humbled when we provided this service, including purchasing the groceries, at no charge,” explains Michael Minicozzi, General Security’s director of operations.

One recipient sent a personal letter of gratitude.

“We received a handwritten note saying how appreciative he was of the food shopping and delivery we provided while his wife was ill with COVID-19,” says Minicozzi. “He mentioned how he also paid it forward by making donations to a local hospital and soup kitchen.”

Supporting First Responders

Giving back to first responders is also something General Security has consistently supported. Edward Minicozzi, Jr., the company’s president, and a former chief of the Bayville Fire Company, wanted to recognize these volunteersmany of whom worked extra hours during the pandemic’s onset.

In thanks for their service, General Security delivered complimentary catered meals to these local heroes and their families. Each included a personalized letter on behalf of the Minicozzi family commending them for their selfless service.

“You have been recognized by the chief of your department for your service and dedication during this ongoing pandemic,” it states. “You have not only spent time away from loved ones, you have taken many risks, every time you respond to an alarm.”

Minicozzi says the meals were something he, his family, and company wanted to provide to lessen what has undoubtedly been a stressful time.

“With us being a security provider, we felt we needed to give something back to our first responders,” he shares. “We have a mission to keep our community and its residents safe.”

Helping & Supporting

As an organization, General Security prides itself on these charitable acts, kind gestures, and support for anyone requiring assistance.

“We want to always give back to the community we serve, and pay it forward,” adds Minicozzi. “It’s what we do, and we’ll always be here to help anyone in need.”
